Steve’s Garden Deli fundraising night

Truman’s chapter of Society of Professional Journalists is working toward a major reorganization after a few semesters of being inactive, but in order for members to join and be considered on a national level, each student has to pay about $40 in membership fees.

To help offset the cost of joining the organization, which will greatly benefit student journalists in the long run, the owners of Steve’s Garden Deli will be donating 20 percent of their profits from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Deli on The Square!

The money will go toward the ultimate goal of allowing students to join the organization for $10-$15, a much more realistic, college rate.Since SPJ is the most prominent and prestigious journalism organization for both professionals and students, those students who have a passion for pursuing journalism will greatly benefit from involvement in the organization. You don’t have to be a journalism major to be involved either! The SPJ chapter looks to help students network within the journalism community across the country and promote journalistic ethics, among many, many other efforts. For more information on what SPJ is trying to do, contact us at spj.truman@gmail.com, or tweet us at @TrumanStateSPJ.
